Envelope budgeting: plan the month, track spending, sync without an account

Envelopes is a personal finance app built on envelope budgeting - the method behind YNAB. The idea is simple: at the start of the month you give every euro, dollar or hryvnia a job, and from then on you spend from a specific envelope instead of from a vague total.

No account, no server

Your data lives on the device in a plain SQLite file. There is no sign-up, the app has no backend of its own, and there are no ads or trackers.

Features

• Monthly budget: planned, actual, remaining. Overspending and categories running out early are flagged before the month ends.
• Category targets: monthly amount, save by a date, or keep a balance - plus one-tap allocation of the money you have left.
• Accounts: cash, bank, credit cards, loans and off-budget tracking accounts. Each account has its own currency and decimal places, crypto included.
• Credit cards the envelope way: a card purchase immediately sets aside money to pay it off.
• Transfers between accounts, with an exchange rate when currencies differ.
• Transactions: splits, payees, memos, flags, receipt photos, reconciliation, bulk edits, search and filters.
• Quick entry: by voice or from home screen widgets - transaction, voice, receipt.
• Scheduled payments with reminders. A due payment can be confirmed, moved, or entered on any other day without touching the schedule.
• Reports: where the money went, spending trend with average and trend lines, income breakdown, income-and-expense table by month, top payees, net worth and credit card debt.
• Age of Money - how old your money is by the time you spend it.
• Several independent budgets, each with its own currency.
• Moving from YNAB: import a YNAB 4 file (.y4backup) or a web YNAB export - accounts, categories, payees and transactions come across in full.
• Dark theme, a "hide amounts" mode for prying eyes, a palette for red-green colour blindness, CSV export.

Sync through your own storage

Google Drive, Dropbox or WebDAV - your account, your files. Two devices on the same network can also sync directly over Wi-Fi, without the internet at all - scan a QR code instead of typing the other device’s address.

Backups

Manual and automatic copies to the device, to a file, or to the cloud. Cloud copies can be protected with a password (AES-GCM).

Security

PIN code and fingerprint unlock.

Languages

Twelve interface languages: English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Dutch and Turkish. Number and date formats are configurable independently of the language.

Your data stays yours

Everything the app sends to the cloud can be encrypted with a password you set - backups, receipt photos and the sync file alike. The password never leaves your device, and the format is documented in the privacy policy, so the files can be opened without this app.
